From 2011-2016, I created, launched, and ran a clothing line called Afia. The fabric was cotton wax prints manufactured in Ghana and sewn by the Dzidefo women’s sewing collective. The first collection sold out in two months, and won a showcase at New York Fashion Week and the Ethical Fashion Forum’s Innovation USA Award. The women who sewed the collections were paid four times the local wage.
